Skype Session 6 Recap

Just skipped right over Skype Session 5, mainly because it was about the E-Library and I have yet to go through the live streaming video (I missed a part of it) and I don’t want to lag behind because of one missed video. So yes, onwards to Skype Session 6! Date: Tuesday, Nov 7th 2017 Guest Speakers: Donald Takguy and Terry Quinn Both of these artists were UAL alumni. We started the session off by meeting Donald, who began the MA as a filmmaker and during the MA focused on making simple abstract films. The idea behind these films would …

Exploring the Saudi Center for Fine Arts

Exploring the Saudi Center for Fine Arts

Day two of our art gallery tour series found us on the doorstep of The Saudi Center for Fine Arts. Where Arbab al Heraf had been an amorphous concept, leaving us with little knowledge what to expect and then surprising us with hospitality, inclusiveness and an indiscriminate love for the artistic, SCFA was quite a bit more disciplined and exclusive. There, I made it sound horrible didn’t I? Well what can I say, it was a tad bit disappointing in a few ways. The art gallery section of it was glorious. Glass walls, two floors, literally papered with gorgeous abstracts …

Skype Session 4 Recap

Date: 24th October, 2017 Skype sessions 2 and 3 were the symposiums, discussed here and here. So now we come to Skype Session 4 which was a live streaming guest speaker session by Romain M. You can see the background study I did before the lesson began here. Romain began the lecture by confessing that he did not consider himself an expert on the subject of processing, however, Jonathan explained that we did not want to be experts and therefore did not need an expert on the subject. We simply wanted to explore possibilities. Romain explained that processing is an …

Skype Session 1 Recap

Date: October 3rd 2017 A Skype chat with over 10 people. Sounds difficult doesn’t it? It was actually really very efficient! First of all, because of the three rules Jonathan laid out: No worries over grammatical errors Anyone can type/talk at any time, regardless of whether the conversation has moved past a topic Anyone replying to a specific comment should mention that person’s name And second of all, because Skype saves chats! So it didn’t matter if the conversation moved too fast, or you were lingering on one topic while other spoke on a different one because you could always …

Notes on– Action Research Methodology for Artists

Lecture by course leader Jonathan Kearney Date: October 17, 2017 The lecture began with an intro from Cecilia Graham about the student’s union. Here are a few of the things she said that I felt were interesting and would like to check out further: Made in arts london: It promotes and sells the art made UAL students and alumni (how cool is that? :D) Student Initiative Fund: To fund extra curricular engagements organized by students Further info to all can be found at www.arts-su.com or by emailing Cecilia Graham at c.graham@su.arts.ac.uk Jonathan began the lecture by describing the difference between …
