I read The Forty Rules of Love

I’m not sure if I spoke about #PayByBookDay yet, but it was this AMAZING initiative by JeddahReads. People were invited to a cafe, and asked to bring books along. Then they could converse with renowned authors or journalists or psychologists or get a coffee, all in exchange for books. Books were the currency for the day. And, of course, if you didn’t have books with you you could just hang out and mingle. Such stuff, especially involving expats is SO RARE in Jeddah that I relish any such occasion. Anyway, so here I was listening to a (slightly boring) …

Dreams for the future (and how I plan to get there)

Dreams for the future (and how I plan to get there)

It can seem overwhelming but it actually is a blessing, that every time we take one step forward out blossom infinite possibilities. So, while two years ago starting this MA itself was a dream come true, after going through this process of learning, I have so many more ideas, hopes and dreams I want to achieve. Without further ado, here is my upcoming list of dreams I want to fulfill post-graduation: One day I want to open a huge center (institute?) for artists in either Jeddah or Karachi (basically the two places that need it the most!). Social media update

A lot of my reflection over the last couple of months, has happened over social media. I would be posting daily on Instagram or Facebook, and the idea was that I never posted for the sake of posting. I only posted if I had something meaningful to say, which has been my goal from the very beginning. Diverging here a little, but I just want to point out that lately, if you follow public figures on social media you will find after every 20 posts or so, a post describing how they feel this void. That the effort of maintaining …

Jeddah’s first public library is here!

Jeddah’s first public library is here!

I’m sorry did you just read that title with contempt? It’s okay if you did. I understand. I mean, how backward does a place have to be to not have any public libraries *cries floods of tears*. But, seriously, the reading culture here in Jeddah is seriously impaired. There is one tiny non-profit trying to do something to change that, and they’re called JeddahReads. And if you know me, you know my objective is to collaborate with every possible person that promotes creativity. lol. So, of course, I was delighted when they invited me as the guest speaker at the …

The whys of the Iridescent Alloy process? (and a bit of what too)

The whys of the Iridescent Alloy process? (and a bit of what too)

Art is so fluid in meaning. What you want to say can divulge itself in so many forms. I am and always have been a lover of words. A fan of literature and a bibliophile. When I dig deep, this is the truth I discover about myself. I am first and foremost a lover and teller of stories. So, when this MA began, I was still finding my footing as an artist and as a person, but if you asked me what I wanted to say, I would have said I want to build a narrative. Illustration was something I …
