The Untold Edition — Phases of planning part 1

I’ve always known that community work is important to me. I think growing up with a dad like mine cultivated that in me. He’s an eye surgeon and his hobby is to host eye camps in the rural areas of Pakistan where people suffer from curable diseases like cataract and spend their whole lives blind. I watched him perform 200 cataract operations a day for nothing and then spend the weekend sleeping on the roofs of clay houses. He enjoyed every moment of it. I saw the looks on those faces when their bandages were unwrapped and they blinked in …

Research paper — Brainstorming part 1

This blog will literally flow directly onto the screen from my mind so it may not contain very many coherent thoughts, but hopefully, it will allow me to make some sense of the ideas I have for my research paper topic.   Researching Robert Rauschenberg, I stumbled onto Marcel Duchamp’s ‘Fountain’. He created this piece under the pseudonym ‘R. Mutt’, an almost comical and unrealistic name, and submitted it to the gallery board that he himself was part of. What was the Fountain? A urinal. Yes. A little bit of reorganization

Reordering and tidying up always helps me clear my head when I’m feeling overwhelmed. And ever since the research paper discussion my mind has been feeling overwhelmed with thoughts and ideas. The term began again last week, and may I just say, it began with a bang. The research paper was upon us! So last week’s Skype session Jonathan walked us through a document he would email later about what the research paper is and how to tackle it. I’m just adding the document here so I can access it easily later. research paper EXTENDED briefing with examples There was a lot of information, and I think I will digest it overtime. I like to think in steps because it helps me avoid getting overwhelmed by the magnitude of what is …

Artist Case Study 5: Robert Rauschenberg’s Combines

Ever since I combined sculpture and canvas I have been searching for artists who have done the same in the past. I couldn’t find that many. Why was I looking? I guess because I believe that it always helps to build on existing works, and learn from them. One artists I did discover was Robert Rauschenberg. He apparently made art he called “Combines” which involved a cojoining of sculpture and painting. I decided to study a bit about him. Here is what he had to say about the process of his “Combines”: He claimed he “wanted …
