MPR — A log of my comments

MPR — A log of my comments

Part of the midpoint review was to watch the videos my classmates had made and to comment on and discuss their work. While watching the videos I wrote my comments into a notebook and then typed them into Skype in real time. Now I’m just posting them on this blog so that everyone can go over them. The objective of my comments was to convey how I felt about the current work and help my classmates find things that could potentially inspire them and give them ideas for the future. Here are the comments I had for each video: JANET …

Mid Point Review Presentation

Mid Point Review Presentation

When I began this program I knew I wanted to explore contemporary narrative art, inspired by the writings of Katherine Mansfield. She wrote short stories focusing not on the traditional “monomyth” but on the stories of the inner mind, or the stream of consciousness. A more meandering form of storytelling but, in my opinion, one more truly reflective of the human condition.   I also knew that I wanted to continue working on public art projects. The interaction between art and its audience is of particular significance to me. I feel that the full implications of an artwork are only …

Skype Session 15 Recap

Skype Session 15 Recap

Jumped a bunch of session recaps in the middle but I just feel this one is important to recap and reflect upon since it was all about the midpoint review which is coming up next week. *gulp* When Jonathan emailed, I felt a bit sick with nervousness. I guess just the idea of compressing all that work and thought so succinctly seemed daunting. While the session didn’t remove all of my anxiety, it did help me understand the mid point review a whole lot better. We were all reconnecting after a long break during the low residency so there was …

Tutorial 2!

Tutorial 2!

Date: 23rd January 2018 with Jonathan Kearney This is long overdue! Chicago has been keeping me busy with its biting winter winds and tons and tons of random moments of artistic inspiration. But, finally, I am getting around to writing this (compulsory!) blogpost. Upon reflection, this tutorial was so vastly different from the previous one. In the previous one I stepped in uncertain and after the discussion, came out with so much clarity and direction. At the beginning of this tutorial I was more excited. I was bursting with ideas, but by the end I had discovered multiple new perspectives …

Skype Session 6 Recap

Just skipped right over Skype Session 5, mainly because it was about the E-Library and I have yet to go through the live streaming video (I missed a part of it) and I don’t want to lag behind because of one missed video. So yes, onwards to Skype Session 6! Date: Tuesday, Nov 7th 2017 Guest Speakers: Donald Takguy and Terry Quinn Both of these artists were UAL alumni. We started the session off by meeting Donald, who began the MA as a filmmaker and during the MA focused on making simple abstract films. The idea behind these films would …
